This is valid -- Microsoft Windows includes a GUI safe mode for such things -- and it's of my opinion that Linux should have the same capabilities for (especially) novice users. The more GUI Linux can present, the more capable and presentable Linux becomes as a desktop system. Frugalware appears to be well on it's way of accomplishing this. It can't be done from x/kernel's post_install since pacman is locked by that time. One solution is below: 1. We should create an /etc/boot.d dir, which is a placeholder for scripts to be run only once on next reboot. 2. Kernel/x post_install should place a hook into that dir to call post_install of nvidia/fglrx on next reboot. 3. We should run every script found in that dir on every boot, but if they don't yield any error, they should be deleted from that dir - this way they're run only once (if everything is OK). One should decide what should happen if one/more of that scripts fail, and think if this method can be used to hijack the system somehow. ( huch ? ) .After doing some hack I found out the DB is not compiled with -lpthread.
