If a do a makepkg -R with depends() that pacman can't satisfy it doesn't stop, 
isted uses the wrong package. Another problem related to this one: If i create 
a local database pacman don't use that in chroot builds. That wold be *really* 
useful when i want to bump whole e17 and i want to test it first. In that case 
it should use the versions i've set in depends and install them from my local 
repo. Am i missed the point somewhere?

Hi, I tested a netinstall and there is a big problem because this "updated repo 
db but *fpm's". The problem is the follow: Let we say we do a netinstall with 
base / net / lib. Because there is some new *fmp from base pacman has a error ( 
fpm not found )and doesn't install any base pkg .. this means for base broken 
install .. even is something with net selection wrong no net etc. We really 
need to look into that crazy

The /etc/sysconfig/font file is created wrongly. It's font (null) that is 
active after the installation instead of the chosen font, i.e. for German e.g.

I have another distro using grub. Having Frugalware install grub into MBR does 
not work and the original old grub bootmenue appears after a reboot. Even the 
latest net install is affected. Grub worked properly in 0.4 pre1. The generated 
/boot/grub/menu.lst looks strange. Among other things all grub references have 
a missing 0, e.g. "kernel (,8)/boot/vmlinuz). Issuing grub and install it 
manually does not work either.

I am running Frugalware-current. I have been unable to use "makepkg -Ra" to 
compile or re-compile any package. For example, see what happens when I try to

I can't get "repoman upd" to work properly. The first time I used "repoman upd" 
it downloaded the Frugalware Source Tree (FST). But now when I run "repoman 
upd" I get the following error message: # repoman upd Invalid repository: 
ftp://ftp5.frugalware.org/packages/frugalware/pub/frugalware/frugalware-current/frugalware-i686/.. 
darcs failed: Failed to download URL

libcurl error code: 18 I tried deleting /var/fst and starting over again. I get 
the same behaviour. "Repoman upd" only works the first time. Any time after 
that, repoman upd fails. Is there a fix or workaround? Rob

After going through the recent xorg 7.0 upgrade, the X server failed to start 
with Could not open default font 'fixed' Installling font-alias solved the 
problem. I think it should be added as a dependency to the appropriate member 
of the xorg group.

After upgrading to xorg 7.0, "startx" fails. The X server starts up fine, but 
it leaves me at that point, the wm doesn't come up, I see just the following

rejected from local host Auth name: XDM-AUTHORIZATION-1 ID: -1 Xlib: connection 
to ":0.0" refused by server Xlib: Protocol not supported by server 
Misteriously, both of the Xorg :0 & $windowmanager and startx -- :1 commands 
*succeed*. [I apologize if it's due to a local config screw-up, but I haven't 
seen this with the old Xorg packages.]

I just upgraded the software on my Fruglware box with the latest kernel. During 
the upgrade it also installed the latest version of elinks. I can run elinks 
from the command line. But when I run "makepkg -Ra", a warning appears -- 
elinks program is missing. Cannot check for latest version. (This is new. I 
never had this warning until after I upgraded my Frugalware box). Here is the

The error has something to do with the chroot environment. I found a 
workaround. Add elinks to makedepends in the FrugalBuild File. In my view this 
is not a great solution. One will need to add elinks to every FrugalBuild! Rob

I have just installed 0.4 pre2-i686 I also installed tetex 'pacman -S tetex' 
but after that there were still no files like /usr/bin/tex or /usr/bin/latex I 
checked some of the files in 'pacman -Ql tetex' and my impression was, that the 
files outside the texmf directory are missing. I may be wrong, I just checked 
some files. I also tried 'repoman merge tetex' and now it seems to work. Should 
I upload my newly built fpm?

I just installed rox-filer via pacman -S rox-filer. rox-filer works great until 
one clicks on the "Show Extra Details" icon on the toolbar. If you do, 
rox-filer crashes. You don't see any message. rox-filer just disappears. I 
tried removing rox-filer, removing the config files in the home directory and 
reinstalling rox-filer. Same problem. Perhaps there is a missing dependency?

When a new release comes, upon installing the 'frugalware' pkg, it will 
overwrite just about every entry it finds to the current level. For example, I 
had two lines, for 0.3 and -current, now it looks like this: title Frugalware 
0.4pre2 (Wanda) kernel (hd0,2)/boot/vmlinuz ro root=/dev/hda3 noapic quiet 
vga=791 title Frugalware 0.4pre2 (Wanda) - 2.6.15-fw2 kernel 
(hd0,1)/boot/vmlinuz ro root=/dev/hda2 splash=silent noapic vga=791 The first 
used to be 0.3. The package should check the partition it is being installed on 
(or maybe /proc/cmdline), and replace only the line which is affected by the 
update.

I am running frugalware-current. I have installed aspell and abiword (v2.4.1). 
I have also installed aspell6-en dictionary. When starting a spell check, 
Abiword crashes and disappears. But the spell-check as you type works 
perrfectly. It crashes only when you manually start a spell check by typing F7 
or clicking TOOLS -- Spell Check. I have tried uninstalling abiword, deleting 
.AbiSuite directories in the home directories and reinstalling abiword. But 
that has made no difference. Manual Spell Checking crashes abiword. Very 
Strange. I hope there is a fix since spell checking is a key feature for Word 
Pro. My spelling is terriblle! Rob

After a clean install(base && dhcpcd in case of mine), if you want to use X you 
make a pacman -S kde-i18n-hu or so. It will install X and qt and so, but: 1: 
After xorgconfig you have to edit the RgbPath and ModulePath in your xorg.conf 
(It's not out fault imo). 2: You have to install manuall xf86-video-XXX, 
xf86-input-mouse, xf86-input-keyboard. In my opinion we should add 
xf86-input-mouse, xf86-input-keyboard and xf86-video-vga to xorg-server 
makedepends as they are necessary. There are missing fonts also. I've installed 
corefonts, but that's because of KDE, a blackbox user won't use it. So i don't 
know exactly if it's a global problem or KDE specific. Any additions are 
welcome :)

I was unable to install current this afternoon from the 0.4pre2 netinstall this 
afternoon. I selected categories, then started selecting packages after I hit 
OK from selecting packages from the devel category, the install returned to the 
beginning. To solve this I had to install 0.3 then upgrade to current.

The message I receive is *** glibc detected *** free(): invalid pointer: 
0x08226e60 *** and a core dump. Everything was OK until latest sysupdate. irssi

Subject: [Frugalware-bugs] package 'module-init-tools' keeps overwriting
	/etc/sysconfig/modules

It is not the first time I experience this, my 'modules' file gets overwritten 
by the above package which owns it. Now I excluded it in pacman.conf. As a 
general idea, I would recommend backing up every file by pacman under /etc/ 
before overwriting. (except for application defaults stored here) thanks! LG

installing dnsmasq works fine, but when setting it up as a dhcp server (i.e. 
uncommenting the range in dnsmasq.conf) the lease folder is not there and on 
startup an unidentified error appears. It's due to the missing misc folder in 
/var/lib/(misc). This misc folder must be there to put the dnsmasq.leases file 
in. If you create this folder namually, there is no error message and dnsmasq 
works as a dhcp server. Perhaps this misc folder in /var/lib/ can be created 
during install to circumvent the error messsage.

The latest (.19) pacman shows which package is corrupted if find one. Mostly 
you simply want to delete the package and redownload it, so there should be a 
question for this. Using --noconfirm with this feature fixes that problem on 
build servers that there is a corrupted package in /var/cache/pacman/pkg, you 
can't delete it and you can't build packages because of it.

Syncpkgd log is full of pacman progressbar messages. It makes the log fat and 
hard to find any useful information. There should be an option in pacman to 
switch off the progressbar or make it wget-like where there is no such output 
if the program is redirected.

Print the same percent value only once. If I want to install eg. tetex at a 
remote machine on a slow ssh connection, I can't wait long enough to finish it. 
So I launch a screen and detaching it while installing, only for suppressing 
useless output of pacman.

If one forgets to install dhcpcd (which is likely), and he/she gets the IP from 
DHCP, then he/she can't access the network. It's no harm if it's installed but 
not used, and can be safely -R'ed if it's not needed (like gpm and alike).
