However, I did find some weird things using valgrind. Most prominently were a couple of 'Conditional jump or move depends on unitialised values' in mktime(), called in check_olddelay() as well as in strcmp() invoked by _pacman_db_read(). There was also one 'Source and destination overlap' in mempcpy, called via sprintf through _pacman_MDFile. Gonna try and find more about this issue, I'll report back once I do, then hopefully with a backtrace ;). Ah yes, I'm running frugalware 0.7rc2 (Sayshell) in an x86 virtualbox on an x86_64 host. That corrupted fpm was hashed, added to 0.6's fdb and was uploaded to the package repo. pacman recognized the need for update and fetched the package and installed it without a warning, but the half broken package got extracted only partially (up to the point while contents could be read) leavnig the system in a broken state. i've tapped enter on the file in mc, and it showed an unbzip2 error, so it might be possible to detect such errors, but actual mileage depends on libarchive. We need some solution to: i) list local WLANs - which is trivial and could be done by parsing the output from iwlist or a similar tool ii) connect to these - which is non-trivial. Even though wpa_supplicant can deal with most networks, scanning and parsing the wifi info to generate the correct settings is probably difficult and requires good understanding of the different technologies and encryption systems out there. The optimal target for this functionality would be Gnetconfig, but perhaps a stand-alone tool would suffice. I have looked at the code for draknetcenter in Mandriva, but it is quite complex, entangled and poorly documented Perl code that is probably very difficult to use on any other OS than Mandriva. I could offer to help out. My own programming skills are limited to Perl. My scenario: pacman-g2 -Syu on a remote box, upgrading 0.6->0.7, following the docs (http://frugalware.org/docs/stable/upgrade). After the second reboot I couldn't reach the box, since there was no /bin/mount. The reason: util-linux-ng haven't been installed (which has replaced util-linux, which owned this file), since I had a fileconflict as well. My 2 cents: if pacman-g2 sees both fileconflict and replaces in the same run, then (try to) explicitly install (again) the new stuff (in my example above: util-linux-ng) after anything. It is quite horrible not being able to do anything with the box without an install CD after an upgrade... For example, you can configure an extra mouse button to send a Ctrl+Alt+Right command to switch workspaces. This is especially useful for mice with more buttons than Gnome or KDE can properly handle, or mice that need evdev and a 100 step howto to register button events at all. btnx-config is a GUI configuration tool for btnx. btnx requires btnx-config to work, because btnx-config also detects your mouse and its buttons. We talked about this on irc, for more info, please read: http://www.archlinux.org/pipermail/pacman-dev/2007-September/009429.html I did the following test: I installed xine-ui (and the needed dependencies) with pacman-g2, then I removed xine-ui. Then I start a gfpm, I viewed the installed packages in xlib group, and to be sure I viewed the information of xine-lib (to load pkgcache). Then I removed xine-lib with pacman-g2. Then I switched back to the running gfpm and installed xine-ui. This didn't pull xine-lib, but it should have had to do so. The result is broken database: -xine-ui has missing xine-lib dependency -/var/lib/pacman/local/xine-lib-1.1.8-1/ contains only one file: depends (probably because of update-requiredby)<- so pacman -Qi xine-lib shows xine-lib, but pacman -R xine-lib cannot remove it. It's not pressing, but, I think there are players who are addicted :-p PS : I'm French. I'msorry if my English is bad or "out of place" but I do my best ;-) More information can be found at the following URL: http://bugs.frugalware.org/index.php?do=details&task_id=2537 You are receiving this message because you have requested it from the Flyspray bugtracking system. From noreply at frugalware.org Wed Oct 31 12:18:48 2007 From: noreply at frugalware.org (Frugalware) Date: Wed Oct 31 12:19:06 2007 Subject: [Frugalware-bugs] [FBTS] #2538: Only root can run glxgears, glxinfo and Openoffice with fglrx 8.42.3 In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: <20071031111857.2510.156887842.swift@bugs.frugalware.org> THIS IS AN AUTOMATED MESSAGE, DO NOT REPLY. A new Flyspray task has been opened. Details are below. User who did this - Andreas Wallberg (Korpenkraxar) Attached to Project - Frugalware Summary - Only root can run glxgears, glxinfo and Openoffice with fglrx 8.42.3 Task Type - Bug Report Category - X Window System Status - Unconfirmed Assigned To - Operating System - i686 Severity - High Priority - Normal Reported Version - -current Due in Version - Undecided Due Date - Undecided Details - Hi! There seems to be some problem with the new fglrx driver. glxgears and glxinfo ==================== In the terminal they print: Segmentation fault In dmesg: glxgears[5569]: segfault at 00000000 eip 00000000 esp bfa90b4c error 4 oowriter ======== In the terminal: /usr/lib/openoffice.org/program/soffice: line 269: 6372 Segmentation fault "$sd_prog/$sd_binary" "$@" ** (process:6484): WARNING **: Unknown error forking main binary / abnormal early exit ... In dmesg: soffice.bin[6500]: segfault at 00000000 eip 00000000 esp bfd7d42c error 4 I also tried starting the OpenGL game "boson", which in a window complaints that DRI is not activated and then crashes. All apps works just fine if I run them as root, making me suspect a file permission problem somewhere relating to one or more of fglrx's files. fglrx ===== In dmesg: [fglrx:firegl_addmap] *ERROR* existing map 0xf1159e80 (handle 0xf8d61000) [fglrx:firegl_addmap] *ERROR* existing map 0xf1159cc0 (handle 0x00000000) [fglrx:firegl_addmap] *ERROR* existing map 0xf1159bc0 (handle 0xf90e0000) [fglrx] PCIe has already been initialized.
