Two examples of this are the bootclean and random services. Simply put, according to frugalrledit, neither bootclean nor random start at any runlevel. However, judging by the boot messages of my system, both of these services are actually started up at boot time. As a side note, is there any way to look at the boot messages after the system has completed its boot? It is possible that other services aren't accounted for properly by frugalrledit. Also, could a Frugalware developer tell me if the bootclean and random services are (by default) started at boot time in a Frugalware install? I would like to verify that I am actually correct about those two services starting at boot. Even after choosing for the pkgs to be installed it will then popup with " your system is now Installed etc.. & can now reboot " But nothing has happened. I use the latest DVD version. I was wondering if it could be due to having the /root & swap on first drive & having /usr on second drive to its self could be a reason but wont know until I try installing to just a /root on first drive first partition with swap only. However, after reading this article... http://blog.wired.com/27bstroke6/2008/08/revealed-the-in.html I believe the issue of authentication should be upgraded to a security related feature. Also, I would like to suggest using the https protocol for logins into both the Frugalware forums and the bug-tracking system. I believe the design flaw mentioned in the article could cause a serious man in the middle style attack upon the package management system if the package system doesn't bother to verify that downloaded packages are official. Likewise, such a attack may also target the Frugalware forums and the bug-tracking system - potentially compromising passwords. In short, my recommendations would be to... 1. Add some sort of authentication to the Frugalware package management system for downloaded content. (Perhaps GPG signatures.) 2. Use https for logins to both the Frugalware forums and the bug-tracking system. This problem is caused by newer ffmpeg with 'enabled swscale'. We disabled that first to solve that problem but almost all other apps need ffmpeg *need* swscale , meaning one cannot even compile some at all without that support in ffmpeg. Since 0.8.* won't have any support nor any fix for that the solution would be to 1) bump VLC to 0.9.1 which fixes all that mess or 2) try to duplicate ffmpeg package and hack 0.8* to compile in some way. ( well I didn't got 2) to work fine and that causes again some other problems when both ffmpeg packages are installed :| ) I would like to bump it but we are in freeze =) vmiklos what do you think ? May I bump it ?
