This can lead to situation where package A make /foo/bar a real directory, and package B make /foo/bar try to symlink to whereever without making an error and without making the node a symlink. The expected result is that the transaction fails, saying that it fails to create the symlink and/or the symlinks points to the wrong node. In addition ideally, it should tell which packages owns the dir/file that owns the files (optinal). In addition there should be a trigger to ignore this check (maybe use the global --force ?) However, my CD drives randomly and become unrecognized by my computer. A message box titled "Audio CD - KDE Daemon" comes up says "A New Medium has been detected. What do you want to do?" This happens regardless of whether there is a CD in my two DVD/CD drives or not. After this happens, I can read the contents of the CD, but can't do anything else like copy from the CD or rip music. I have Frugalware and a couple of other Linuxes on my computer (plus a Windows partition that I rarely use). I have used the other Linuxes and sadly the Windows enough to know that I have no similar problems with them. Most of us are afraid of installing and maintaining one. Polipo is the solution. It's optimized for one (or more) person(s) and basically doesn't need much more than a normal install (and staring the service). Besides that Polipo has a lot of unique features and an easy to use configuration file. It can be used by just having an executable and a configuration file. It's really very portable (and it should be easy to create a FrugalBuild). You search for openbox which narrows the selection to 4 packages. You check the checkbox beside each one then click on the [Install] button. The child window that appears however, says that just 1 of the 4 selected will be installed. I know that the [Apply] button in the toolbar has the effect I really wanted. This is a usability issue but I would have expected that all 4 packages would have been installed when I clicked on the [Install] button. When trying to install frugalware, I got a kernel panic. RAMDISK: incomplete write (-28 != 32768) 8388608 ... kernel panic not syncig : VFS : unable to mount root fs on unknown block. To get rid of the kernel panic, I just fixed the parameter myself, computing it with : (expr $(zcat initrd-i686.img.gz | wc --bytes) / 1024) After that, I was able to install frugalware just fine :) Just in case it's useful, I got the solution from here : http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=256354 I have no idea why it went wrong, though.
