The device is fully supported by the kernel, but wvdial uses ppp once connected. Here is the error I've had : .... --> Carrier detected. Starting PPP immediately. --> Starting pppd at Sun Jun 1 12:16:41 2008 --> Pid of pppd: 5372 --> Disconnecting at Sun Jun 1 12:16:41 2008 --> The PPP daemon has died: No ppp module error (exit code = 4) --> man pppd explains pppd error codes in more detail. --> I guess that's it for now, exiting --> The PPP daemon has died. (exit code = 4) The manpage says : 4 The kernel does not support PPP, for example, the PPP kernel driver is not included or cannot be loaded. I'm asking myself how could be the fact that ppp is supported under frugalware but kernel does not have a ppp module ... User who did this - Mikl?s HOMOLYA (homiklos) Attached to Project - Frugalware Summary - use lzma compression in .fpm packages Task Type - Feature Request Category - Base system Status - Unconfirmed Assigned To - Operating System - x86_64 / i686 Severity - Low Priority - Normal Reported Version - -current Due in Version - Undecided Due Date - Undecided Details - Using lzma compression instead of bzip2 in .fpm packages would be a good idea. lzma offers at the same time both better compression ratio (which would result in smaller packages) and faster decompression (which would result on faster installation). When Frugalware was created lzma was not available or was not enough stable, but now even the GNU project distributes their sources in .tar.lzma. There was also a discussion at Arch Linux (http://www.nabble.com/About-Arch-pkg-compress-format-td17334405.html) about package compress tools. However, the clamav package is installed. I had this same problem for a while when running Slackware. Namely, in an update to clamav, libclamav.so.3 was updated to libclamav.so.4. I believe this issue has already been resolved by the klamav developers. Therefore, updating stable's klamav package should solve this problem. Task Type - Feature Request Category - Installer Status - Unconfirmed Assigned To - Operating System - i686 Severity - Medium Priority - Normal Reported Version - -current Due in Version - Undecided Due Date - Undecided Details - Hello, I have the following improvement ideas for the installer/base system. 1.) It would be nice if at least the ac and battery modules would be probed and added after installation on a laptop. I have to add them by hand. The dmesg shows enough information if there is a battery or not. You could 'embed' a test in the rc.hotplug script, or somewhere else. Or alternatively, there could be a separate rc.laptop/rc.powersave script for this purpose, which of course would NOT fail if there were no laptop-specific hardware components detected ;-) 2.) I think it would be a great step ahead to detect and activate CPU frequency scaling as well. Concerning cpufreq, the processor capabilities can be polled - for me, it was enough to load acpi_cpufreq and cpufreq_ondemand, and the CPU scales down to a low clock when there is no load. Of course this is more complex, but there are not too many CPU classes to look for. I think people owning modern hardware expect these things be configured automatically. On the other hand, there is an 'evdev' (Compaq touchscreen?) module which always gets detected due to some error - you could add it to the blacklist by default until the problem persists ;-) regards LGee More information can be found at the following URL: http://bugs.frugalware.org/task/3197 You are receiving this message because you have requested it from the Flyspray bugtracking system.
