Before I had followed the tutorial, installing iwlwifi-3945-ucode, charging 'iwl3945' in /etc/sysconfig/modules and blacklisting 'ipw3945. But after a reboot,I couldn't get the card working, and when I launched "dmesg", I got this error : iwl3945: iwlwifi-3945-1.ucode firmware file req failed: Reason -2 So, the solution we found was to rename /lib/firmware/iwlwifi-3945-2.ucode to /lib/firmware/iwlwifi-3945-1.ucode and then my wireless card was working flawlessly. So finished the install, booted into run level 3, and tried to trouble shoot from there. Attached is the Frugalware created xorg.conf file. This was created using "xconfig" after installing the ati drivers which were not installed during the install for some reason. The other attached file is the one created by Zenwalk 5.2 Live CD which correctly set up x. I'm currently using the Zenwalk xorg.conf file because it gives me full functionality and x now works under Frugalware. I'm not smart enough to figure out why the Zenwalk one works, and the Frugalware created one does not. The only difference I made in the Frugalware one was to add the resolution of 1280x1024 which was not added automatically when I ran "xconfig". Please see separate bug reports for other issues related to the install on this system. One or more files have been attached. Although, during the install I chose from the menu of "groups" all of the xfce4, lxde, and x11 packages, it was clear that not all of the necessary packages were installed. After booting, I tried starting from run level 3 xfce4 using the common "startxfce4". However, there was no command. Finding this curious, I tried "pacman-g2 -Sy xfce4" This installed the whole "group". I had some of the necessary packages installed according to pacman, but I still was missing a large portion of the files needed to run xfce. Also I had to install slim for a login manager, and I had to install the xorg drivers for ati cards using pacman as well. Now with slim installed I have discovered that lxde must not have installed, because I only have the option of booting xfce4 and there are no options for anything else. Not sure what is the issue. Do I need more that CD#1 and #2, from the user manual I would have guess that those two were enough to get a working system with xfce. User who did this - Steve (mowestusa) Attached to Project - Frugalware Summary - Install of 1.0pre 2 Had Long Pauses And Lack Of Functionality Task Type - Bug Report Category - Installer Status - Unconfirmed Assigned To - Operating System - i686 Severity - High Priority - Normal Reported Version - -current Due in Version - Undecided Due Date - Undecided Details - The Computer is a Dell Inspiron 4100 (Laptop with a non functioning LCD) - 1Ghz Pentium III - 256megs of RAM - ATI Card (correctly identified in attached xorg.conf files) - Attached to an Envision 19" LCD with native resolution of 1280x1024 When using the installer, I had difficulty with a few of the dialogues. - It seemed to have crashed when if found the install disk, but eventually, it came up. - I had partitioned it and had the following three partitions: - 10gig ext3 for / - 9.4gig ext3 for /home - 500megs Linux Swap - When I had to choose a swap partition, the menu did not let me do anything. I could not highlight any of the partitions, and only the first one was highlighted automatically. So I simply pressed enter, and eventually it went on with the install. (I still don't know if that worked or not.) - When I went to format, it zipped by the question for the / partition, and just automatically formatted it reseirfs. The second partition I was able to select ext3. - Finally, the set up of graphics became impossible, and i had to cancel that part and finish the install. It would not let me put in my native resolution of 1280x1024. I was hoping that it could be considered. It is one of the few applications that is designed to work well with Google Calendar. Evolution works, but you need to use a 3rd program to sync the calendars, and then you have to logout and login again before the new synced appoints show up in the calendar. Sunbird is supposed to have full sync ability with Google Calendar through ical. Thanks for considering this. It loads up the GUI but it is unresponsive otherwise. I think it needs to be updated, since it is very outdated right now. The upgrades in our GTK2 library have possibly broken this older release of the program. Since I'm not the maintainer and this appears to be a very major package to some people, I haven't tried to correct this problem with a version bump. I tried recompiling it but it will not compile. Please fix this if possible.
