Tis is my first contact with KDE4 - and it's realy great. The UI is much better and more intuitive than KDE3 Some things that doesn't work after upgrade: - web sites using flash stopped working (firefox, midori, konqueror) - kmobiletools - no contact with the phone (Sierra Wireless AC875 PCMCIA), sometimes crashes after quitting application, no possibility to configure the phone - is it because of (only available) fake engine? - firefox (3.6) crashes on specific sites (always, did not happen in prev version of firefox) - sometimes when starting firefox it runs in the background with no screen, must kill the process from console - gfpm - i invoke it through kdesu - sometimes starts in the backgroud, no screen apears but the process is running (same as with firefox) Things (config options) that i cannot find :( - cannot set polish programmer keyboard (right alt key pressed in conjunction with a letter should produce polish special char - does not). - What is the default encoding now? I used ISO-8859-2 in console (/etc/sysconfig/font - lat2a-16.psfu.gz, /etc/sysconfig/keymap - pl2) and in KDE, is it right in KDE4? Thanks for a great piece of work :) Szubi From nix.or.die at googlemail.com Mon Feb 1 15:55:52 2010 From: nix.or.die at googlemail.com (Gabriel C) Date: Mon, 1 Feb 2010 15:55:52 +0100 Subject: [Frugalware-forums] KDE 4.3.4 in Frugalware In-Reply-To: <267a.4b6668d7@forums.frugalware.org> References: <267a.4b6668d7@forums.frugalware.org> Message-ID: <201002011555.52220.crazy@frugalware.org> On Monday 01 February 2010 06:38:37 Pawel wrote: > Some impressions after upgrading -current to version including KDE 4.3.4: > > - WOW! > Tis is my first contact with KDE4 - and it's realy great. > The UI is much better and more intuitive than KDE3 > > Some things that doesn't work after upgrade: > - web sites using flash stopped working (firefox, midori, konqueror) That should not be KDE4 .. maybe something to do with the flash plugins / or ff update. Also I don't have such a problem on my box(es) strange. > - kmobiletools - no contact with the phone (Sierra Wireless AC875 PCMCIA), > sometimes crashes after quitting application, no possibility to configure > the phone - is it because of (only available) fake engine? Also you can install gdb , then start firefox with firefox -d from console > - gfpm - i invoke it through > kdesu - sometimes starts in the backgroud, no screen apears but the > process is running (same as with firefox) That's not exactly the same since gfpm has an known crash bug .. That will be fixed soon. But again I doubt is kde4 problem =) > > Things (config options) that i cannot find :( > - cannot set polish programmer keyboard (right alt key pressed in > conjunction with a letter should produce polish special char - does not). > - What is the default encoding now? I'll try to find out whats going on >> - kmobiletools - no contact with the phone (Sierra Wireless AC875 PCMCIA), >> sometimes crashes after quitting application, no possibility to configure >> the phone - is it because of (only available) fake engine? > For that open an bug report please. OK, after some tests - i'd like to be quite sure that it isn't something with my installation >> >> Things (config options) that i cannot find :( >> - cannot set polish programmer keyboard > Well go to System Settings -> Regional & Language -> Keyboard Layout >I guess you have to set up polish keyboard first =) I've tried that of course ;) And my previous post wasn't accurate - polish programmer's keyboard does work in some apps, doesn't in some others. For example - kwrite - OK, mousepad, firefox, OpenOffice, evolution - no. It makes me a bit angry that i cannot find what i'm doing wrong :x Szubi From pawel at atisoft.poznan.pl Thu Feb 4 05:39:57 2010 From: pawel at atisoft.poznan.pl (Pawel) Date: Thu, 4 Feb 2010 05:39:57 +0100 (CET) Subject: [Frugalware-forums] KDE 4.3.4 in Frugalware In-Reply-To: <267c.4b67baba@forums.frugalware.org> Message-ID: <267d.4b6a4f99@forums.frugalware.org> The problem with polish programmers keybord is solved now - for me, but i think there is still a problem: - thanks to crazy's suggestion, i've added a new user, set polish regional settings for that user and everything was OK. So i've switched to my normal account again. I've set my regional setting to US and deleted all the others. Than, after restarting KDE i've added polish regional settings and polish kbd - everything worked fine till adding spanish regional settings and kbd (my daughter who studies in Spain and has Frugalware equipped notebook sometimes asks me for some help so i need to know how it looks in spanish too :) ) When i have spanish and polish settings & keyboard installed together polish keyboard works only in some apps, after removing spanish kbd everything works OK. (in FW 1.1 with KDE3 everything works fine, my daughter can switch between polish and spanish keyboard without any problems) szubi From emilcim at yahoo.ie Sun Feb 7 18:03:16 2010 From: emilcim at yahoo.ie (Révész László) Date: Sun, 7 Feb 2010 18:03:16 +0100 (CET) Subject: [Frugalware-forums] =?iso-8859-15?q?rendszerfriss=EDt=E9s_0=2E9-?= =?iso-8859-15?q?=3E1=2E1?= Message-ID: <267e.4b6ef251@forums.frugalware.org> ?dv! In-Reply-To: <2671.4b6357d8@forums.frugalware.org> Message-ID: <267f.4b70d3f7@forums.frugalware.org> The installation of Frugalware running on the HP 2140 notebook (on which I want avticate Plymouth) was "hacked together" because it doesn't have Internet access. Therefore I believe I have missed a vital step (or two). What additional steps are required - e.g. with the kernel/GRUB menu?
