The most troubling is that the up key just doesn't work anymore while the down key does ... I've got no idea why this is as it worked perfectly before with the standard layout ( "us" ). I've attached xorg.conf and the 10-evdev.conf from xorg.conf.d. I've had to modify the 0-evdev.conf because my keyboard wasn't working at all before that. I've modified Option "xkb_layout" "" to Option "xkb_layout" "us". -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Frugalware developer IroNiQ has recently submitted a change to the xorg-server package which may (or may not ?) help with your problem. It seems *very* strange that just the [Up] key isn't responding, but I honestly don't have much experience with keyboard layouts. If you don't get any action/reply to this message, perhaps bug the developers in the IRC channel - #frugalware? In the meantime, do you know if X is getting the right "signal" when the [Up] key is pressed? From memory you can check this by running 'xev' in a terminal and pressing the key itself. If you are getting a different signal than what you expect, perhaps that might help with problem solving? From mforce2 at gmail.com Tue Jul 20 00:44:50 2010 From: mforce2 at gmail.com (Marius Cirsta) Date: Tue, 20 Jul 2010 00:44:50 +0200 (CEST) Subject: [Frugalware-forums] keyboard problems In-Reply-To: <272f.4c44bdd5@forums.frugalware.org> Message-ID: <2730.4c44d561@forums.frugalware.org> I think I've narrowed down the problem. I've checked the Xorg log ( attached here ) and it seems that for some ( odd reason ) it's Applying InputClass "evdev keyboard catchall" to some wrong devices in /dev/input/event* , pretty much to everything that has a key I suppose. What's even more troubling is that both /dev/input/event1 and /dev/input/event2 seem to be my Logitech err BTC keyboard ( OEM stuff rules ) . In terminal eveything works fine and I've tried something under Xorg , I've cat /dev/input/event1 and /dev/input/event2 both of which seem to be associated with my keyboard. /dev/input/event1 reported all events correctly , even the up key but in some strange gibberish. /dev/input/event2 reported exactly the pressed keys but it completely missed the key up press. My opinion is that /dev/input/event2 is configured as my keyboard but for some reason this doesn't work. I think maybe there should be just one /dev/input/event* associated with my BTC keyboard and only that should be configured as the keyboard. -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... I have downloaded and dd'd to the USB key the USB image, also the GUI image but neither work. On boot I either see the word "GRUB" and nothing else, or I get a blank screen. In both cases the USB key's activity LED blinks slowly but I don't know what this means. Is there specific preparation of the USB key that I need to do? I have tried deleting all existing partitions on the key (and booting), creating a fresh partition and marking it bootable (and booting). I seem to have tried every combination of parameters but nothing seems to help. What confuses me is that I was never able to get any of the FW 1.3pre2 images to boot either. But using the same USB key and the same laptop I was able to get the 1.2 USB image to boot and successfully install FW 1.2 over an ADSL line. Is there something I am missing here? I have searched the Internet, looking for answers but not found any. :( From russelldickenson at gmail.com Mon Jul 26 02:09:00 2010 From: russelldickenson at gmail.com (Russell Dickenson) Date: Mon, 26 Jul 2010 02:09:00 +0200 (CEST) Subject: [Frugalware-forums] GNOME "freezes" after a few minutes Message-ID: <2732.4c4cd21b@forums.frugalware.org> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="utf-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit X-FUDforum: 8a3f8263b7bcf10a464c0ea6f382e5a5 <10034> Message-ID: <2732.4c4cd21b at forums.frugalware.org> I have a problem on my MSI Windw U200 laptop where GNOME freezes after up to 10 minutes, but not usually more. When this first started happening I re-installed FW 1.3 (current), thinking that perhaps I had made a change which had caused the problem. At first everything looked good, but it's happening again. :( What happens is that I am in the middle of doing something - opening Nautilus, working on a file in gedit, or something similar - when I suddenly find that nothing is responding to the mouse or keyboard. I can still move the mouse pointer but nothing responds to clicks, nor any key presses on the keyboard. I have to turn the laptop of and on again. I just can't think of what's caused it. In trying to get the wireless chipset working, I created a symlink to a version of the wireless chipset's driver which is supposed to work with the chipset in my laptop. This is the only hardware-related change that I have made and I don't think this is the problem. Wireless network connections were working fine with this change made and for some time after making this change I was able to enjoy GNOME sessions longer than 10 minutes. I wonder if there's been a change to 'current' recently which might be causing the problem. There don't appear to be any physical factors involved - e.g. excessive heat. I can run longer sessions in Windows 7, so it seems to be an OS fault, not a hardware fault. For the moment I undone the change I made to get the wireless chipset working and will see if this has any impact. I will monitor the situation and see if freezes occur again while the wireless chipset is disabled because the driver is not able to be loaded. If this is the cause of the problem I am in trouble, because I need wireless connectivity. If the problem continues even without wireless connectivity enabled, I will try another window manager and/or desktop environment.
